NEW – Criminal Law Clerk – Temporary Maternity Leave Replacement


We are seeking a tech savvy, highly motivated, articulate, team-oriented Criminal Law Clerk to join our growing Criminal Team. The Ross Firm runs a paperless, cloud-based practice. Our criminal team handles criminal defence matters with charges under the Criminal Code of Canada, Part III – Serious Traffic Offences under the Provincial Offences Act and other serious charges such as charges under the Occupational Health and Safety Act for serious workplace accidents. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of experience working in criminal law and will be able to work with less direct supervision. Our criminal practice covers southwestern Ontario and beyond, including our six offices in Goderich, Stratford, Kincardine, Port Elgin, Owen Sound and Walkerton but our reach is province wide. The successful candidate will have proven client management skills, strong analytical, communication, and drafting skills, an entrepreneurial attitude, and a love of technology and innovation.

Primary Duties:

    • Work closely with criminal lawyers, clerks, and administrative team
    • Effectively participate on the team to provide excellent service to clients
    • Preparing and submitting counsel lists before each court appearance
    • Requesting, accessing, and reviewing Crown Disclosure
    • Requesting documents from client
    • Scheduling client meetings, Crown Pre Trials, Judicial Pre Trial’s, resolutions, Application dates, other Court dates
    • Preparing and drafting relevant documents for Court dates for review and approval such as Designations, Notices
      of Election, sentencing documents, Pre- Trial Applications, Case Law Briefs, and Judicial Pre-Trial Briefs
    • Filing Court documents
    • Assistance with all Trial preparation as requested, including use of CaseLines
    • Organize and manage the licensees’ calendars for appointments, bring forward dates, Court dates and scheduling
      generally
    • Communicate by phone and e-mail with clients, Crown’s office, Court staff, and other parties as required and or
      instructed
    • Operate seamlessly with technology and practice software, including, but not limited to Leap Legal, Microsoft
      Office Suite, PDF software (Kofax, Adobe)
    • Maintain daily digital task list for all client files of what needs to be done and what has been completed
    • Any other tasks as assigned

Skills/Knowledge/Experience Required:

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in a criminal law practice
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment, with an emphasis on excellence to our clients
  • Relevant post-secondary education (University Degree or Law Clerk Diploma)
  • Thorough knowledge of legal procedures and statutes

Litigation Clerk – NEW


We are seeking a tech savvy, highly motivated, articulate, team-oriented Litigation Clerk to join our growing Litigation Team. The Ross Firm runs a paperless, cloud-based practice. Our litigation team handles matters before the Superior Court of Justice, Court of Appeal for Ontario as well as various administrative tribunals. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of experience working in civil litigation, estate litigation or personal injury and be able to work with less direct supervision. Our litigation practice covers southwestern Ontario and beyond, including our six offices in Goderich, Stratford, Kincardine, Port Elgin, Owen Sound and Walkerton but our reach is province wide. Primary Duties:

  • Work closely with litigation lawyers, clerks, and administrative team
  • Effectively participate on the team to provide excellent service to clients
  • Organization and management of the licensee calendar for appointments, hearing dates, limitation periods, bring
    forward dates, and scheduling generally
  • Prepare initial drafts of materials including retainer agreements, correspondence, pleadings and court forms as
    required and instructed
  • Arrange for service and filing of court forms
  • Communicate by phone and e-mail with clients, opposing counsel, and other parties as required and or instructed
  • Complete all substantive information gathering, drafting and participate in the management of litigation projects
  • Operate seamlessly with technology and practice software, including, but not limited to CLIO, Leap Legal, and Net
    Documents or other similar client management and document management software, ACL, Microsoft Office Suite,
    PDF software (Kofax, Adobe)
  • Maintain daily digital task list for all client files
  • Docket time spent on files contemporaneously with work being done

Our family law team handles complex property matters, including farm files and corporate files, as well as custody and access matters, support claims, marriage and cohabitation agreements, adoptions, and child protection work.

The family law team covers southwestern Ontario and beyond, including our six offices in Goderich, Stratford, Kincardine, Port Elgin, Owen Sound and Walkerton. Family Law Administration Clerk


We are seeking a tech savvy, highly motivated, articulate, team-oriented Family Law Administration Clerk to join our growing Family Law Team. The Ross Firm runs a paperless, cloud-based practice. We currently have 5 family lawyers with a compliment of 10 existing team members that the successful candidate will be working closely with. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 3 years experience working in family law and be able to work with less direct supervision. Our family law teams cover southwestern Ontario and beyond, including our six offices in Goderich, Stratford, Kincardine, Port Elgin, Owen Sound and Walkerton but our reach is province wide. Primary Duties:

  • Work closely with family law lawyers, clerks, and administrative team
  • Responsible for day-to-day administration of family law files assigned by supervising lawyer
  • Draft orders, consents and any other documents as instructed by the lawyers
  • Draft correspondence to clients, opposing counsel, courts, and other parties
  • Communicate by phone, and e-mail with clients, courts, opposing counsel and other parties
  • Digitally compile documents, serve, and file online, and maintain digital client files
  • Maintain daily digital task list for all client files 
  • Preserve, manage, separate, and organize large volumes of electronic documents in a very shortened time frame
  • Docket time spent on files contemporaneously with work being done

Skills/Knowledge/Experience Required:
